I took Candy to her book signing at Warwick's in La Jolla (what a cool place);
and, when it was time to pose for the author's photo, you'll notice who got
the prime center location.

By the way, if you haven't bought our book, I'm in the acknowledgements and
throughout...as I should be.

Thanks, ladies.  Let's do lunch next time.

[Maddie Blog ]

I'm so proud of my mom Candy and all her work with non-profits. The Humane Society of the United States asked her to judge a contest -- the "Natural Dog-Eared Photo Contest" -- to recognize dogs with natural (surgically-unaltered) ears. Although I got jealous as she went through all the photos of dogs from Miniature Schnauzers to Great Danes, I agree with her selection of "Remington" and give four ears up to the idea of natural beauty. I think of myself as a natural beauty, natch.

LETTER FROM MADISON

I’d like to introduce myself.  I’m Madison Spelling (“Maddie” for short), and I just moved into Spelling Manor two years ago.

The following is what I wrote when I first moved in......

Candy and the nice people at the Manor have been terrific, but there is some sadness here.  Candy’s beloved Annie, that adorable terrier mix who kept everyone on their toes for the last ten years, passed away suddenly in the Fall.  Fortunately, she wasn’t sick.  The vet said it was an extremely rare type of pancreatic attack, and she did not suffer.

I’m told Candy had a very difficult time and struggled with the question of if and when to try to get a new four-legged best friend.  Annie was a rescue, and Candy wanted to rescue another dog.  However, luckily for me, one of her friends sent her my photo.  I have the good fortune on being a terrier myself, and I’m told the sparkle in my eyes reminded Candy of Annie.  So, happily, here I am.

I was born in Orange County, and my name was “Green.”  It had nothing to do with money, envy or Kermit.  My guardians put different color ribbons on my brothers and sisters to keep us straight, and mine was green.

My new home is quite spectacular.  I was in Aaron Spelling’s library the other day, and I was looking through his autobiography, “Aaron Spelling:  A Prime Time Life.”  He started the book with a description that pretty much sums up my new life:

“We have this little house that my wife, Candy, built.  You may have heard about it….”

I actually hadn’t heard much about it (I’m just a few weeks old), but I’ve overheard some comments from those people on the tour buses who stop by all day.  I can tell you with authority that the back yard has everything a dog would want, and I’ve already walked on hedges, fallen into a pond and figured out which gardeners will play ball with me.

Everyone here tells me what a great gal Annie was and how important she was to Candy.  I know I have a big job ahead of me to walk in her paws, but I’m ready.

We’ve decided to turn Annie’s web site into a tribute to her, and I’ve been designated to start searching for videos, inspirational tales and just things to make us all smile to add to our new website, www.madisonspelling.com.

I look forward to hearing from you.  You can write to me at Madison@madisonspelling.com.  I’m learning how to type and will do my best to keep you updated.  I’m also waiting for the photographer for my official head shots.  This is Hollywood, you know.

Best wishes for the new year.

My trip to New York Rocked. You can't beat a snow filled playground. NEW YORK WINTER PHOTOS

As a dog, I have very good hearing – as do many canines – and I constantly see and hear when people point and whisper, “Boy, that dog hit the jackpot.” I’m the first one to agree (my backyard is almost five acres!) Life for this little Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier is good. [Cont. Reading]

Madison & Candy 2010

Let me get this straight. This is a dog show at MADISON Square Garden,
and I'm still in L.A. I think my mom Candy is too busy producing her
Broadway show (yes, it's PROMISES, PROMISES), and I'm not getting the attention I deserve. [READ]
